ArmInfo.Ashot Zakaryan, Chief of the RA Military Police, has submitted his resignation, as reported by the Hraparak newspaper.
According to media reports, Zakaryan, originally from the Shirak region, participated in the First Artsakh War and was responsible for Levon Ter-Petrosyan's headquarters in Gyumri during the 2008 presidential elections.
Today, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the deaths of servicemen in the army during peacetime at a briefing. Pashinyan stated that he had discussed the issue with the Ministry of Defense and that personnel decisions regarding those responsible would be made soon. "I've already made a decision: there will be changes in the Military Police, and we will have changes in the moral and psychological support department. We will thoroughly analyze why the efforts undertaken in this area are not producing the desired results. Conclusions will be drawn, and, yes, there must be individual accountability. My assessment is not that the Chief of the General Staff and the Minister of Defense are not making sufficient efforts to resolve this issue," the head of government stated.
