Armen Ashotyan: Presence of political prisoners in Armenia   acknowledged by  several international organizations 

ArmInfo.Once again, the ruling majority in the new National Assembly has denied not only the existence of political prisoners in the country but also the fact  that this status has been recognized by a number of international organizations. Armen Ashotyan, Vice- Chairman of Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), wrote this on social media. 

Ashotyan specifically pointed to his own case, noting that he has  been recognized as a political prisoner both by the the European  People's Party, a major political party in Europe, and by the Union  of Centrists, one of the  largest global political networks. 

"Of course, it is unfortunate that international organizations remain  silent about other remaining political prisoners, but the ruling  party cannot deny the reality that, yes, there are political  prisoners in Armenia, and at least in Ashotyan's case, this fact is  recognized at the international level. Incidentally, the Centrist  Democratic International has also expressed a formal official opinion  regarding the second fabricated criminal case against Ashotyan,  reiterating its stance on his status as a political prisoner. Frankly  speaking, it is surprising that not a single representative of the  parliamentary opposition recalled or mentioned this specific fact  during the National Assembly sessions," the politician noted.
