Armenian inspection body to inspect Marriott Hotel following food  poisoning at French embassy reception

ArmInfo.The Armenian Food Safety Inspectorate intends to conduct an inspection at the Marriott Hotel complex following food poisoning incident among guests at a Bastille Day reception hosted by the French Embassy in Yerevan.

As the inspectorate's press service told ArmInfo, on the evening of  July 17, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention  (NCDC) reported that 10 citizens had sought treatment at the Center  and the Mikaelyan Institute of Surgery with a diagnosis of acute  intestinal infection. "During the epidemiological investigation, it  was established that all those infected attended a reception  organized by the French Embassy in Armenia on July 14 to mark the  national holiday, Bastille Day. During the event, they enjoyed a  buffet served in the embassy courtyard, including shawarma, pepperoni  pizza, pork skewers, chicken, strawberries, and seafood and salmon  bruschetta," the Inspectorate noted.

Following the report, according to the source, they immediately began  investigating the origin of the food used for the buffet. The  Inspectorate reported that on the evening of July 23, they received a  letter from the French Embassy in Armenia stating that the catering  was provided by the Marriott hotel complex in Yerevan. "Considering  that information about the registered case was transmitted to the  Inspectorate almost ten days after the incident, it is clear that the  relevant batch of products had already been completely consumed by  this time. However, to prevent similar incidents in the future and in  the interest of protecting public health, an inspection will be  conducted at the Marriott Hotel. The results will be announced  additionally," the supervisory authority concluded.

Recall, on July 18, the French Embassy in Armenia confirmed the food  poisoning incident among guests at the Bastille Day reception. The  diplomatic mission stated that guests attending the reception at the  French Embassy on the occasion of the National Day on July 14, 2026,  reported symptoms of food poisoning.
