ArmInfo. On July 22, a new postage stamp dedicated to the theme "Sports. Outstanding Armenian Football Players. Nikita Simonyan's 100th Anniversary" was put into circulation in Armenia.
According to the HayPost press service, the 380 dram stamp depicts the outstanding Armenian football player and coach Nikita (Mkrtich) Simonyan (1926-2025) against a background of a photograph of the Ararat football team. The stamp also bears the inscriptions "100th Anniversary" and "Nikita (Mkrtich) Simonyan" in Armenian and English.
The stamp was designed by Vahan Mkrtchyan. It was printed by the Belgian printing house bpost Philately & Stamps Printing. The stamp size is 40 x 40 m. The total print run is 10,000 copies.
It is worth noting that Nikita Simonyan is one of the most decorated football players and coaches in Soviet football. A native of Armavir, he became a legend of Spartak Moscow, winning the USSR Championship four times as a player and twice as a head coach. From 1973 to 1974, Nikita Simonyan coached Yerevan's Ararat, leading the club to championship and the USSR Cup. He also worked at Ararat from 1984 to 1985. According to open sources, Simonyan played 285 matches in the USSR Championship, scoring 145 goals.
He won the USSR Championship with Spartak in 1952, 1953, 1956, and 1958, and the USSR Cup in 1950 and 1958. Simonyan is the all-time leading scorer for the Red-Whites, with 160 goals. For many years, Simonyan held leadership positions in the Russian Football Union and was the first vice president of the RFU. This outstanding athlete died on November 23, 2025, at the age of 99.
