Golden Apricot Film Festival establishes new award

ArmInfo.  The Golden Apricot International Film Festival intends to promote the development of  regional film distribution. This was announced by Susanna  Harutyunyan, co- founder of the Golden Apricot Film Festival, during  the festival's closing ceremony.

She explained that the festival has established a new award this  year, which will facilitate the distribution of films in cinemas in  Armenia and Georgia. According to Harutyunyan, the importance of such  an initiative is difficult to overestimate, given the distribution  challenges not only in these countries but also throughout the  region. The new Golden Apricot award offers a cash prize of ?6,000,  which will be used to organize the distribution of one film, selected  by a professional jury, in cinemas in six cities across Armenia and  Georgia. The jury announced that this film was Tereza Nvotova's  psychological drama "The Father" (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland).

As a reminder, the 23rd Golden Apricot International Film Festival  took place from July 13 to 19 this year.  According to the jury, in  the international feature film competition, the festival's main  prize, the Golden Apricot, was awarded to Melagros Mumenthaler's "The  Currents," the Silver Apricot to Morteza Ahmadvand and Firuze  Khosrovani's "Past, Future, Continuous," and Sebastian Brameshuber's  "London" received a special mention from the international jury.

In the regional competition, the Golden Apricot was awarded to Amir  Azizi's "Inside Amir," and the Silver Apricot to Alexandre  Koberidze's "Dry Leaf." This film also received the FIPRESCI Prize,  awarded by the International Federation of Film Critics. In the Koriz  competition program dedicated to short films, Seruzh Hovsepyan's  "Dialogues Solitaire" won the Golden Apricot. The film also received  the Gennady Melkonyan Special Prize. Ovsanna Gevorgyan's "Paid  Mourners" received the Silver Apricot in this category. The jury also  awarded special mentions to Sona Khachatryan's "Relic" and Artur  Sahakyan's "Together Alone."
