ArmInfo. The "3+3" regional platform is a vital mechanism for regional cooperation, and Azerbaijan is ready to host its next meeting, as stated by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at a press conference, following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on July 17.
"It is important to note that the situation and regional dynamics in the South Caucasus in 2021 differ significantly from the landscape we see today, which is undergoing fundamental changes," Bayramov said. "To date, three meetings have been held within the framework of the platform in Moscow, Tehran, and Istanbul, respectively. Following the 2024 meeting in Istanbul, the Azerbaijani side proposed hosting the next session."
The Azerbaijani official emphasized that Baku considers this format relevant and important. "However, participating countries must discuss the full range of issues of mutual interest to our countries. And given this understanding and consensus, the Azerbaijani side's proposal to host this platform remains valid," Bayramov said.
It should be noted that the first meeting of the "3+3" regional platform was held on December 10, 2021, in Moscow, co-chaired by the deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, and the Director General of the Iranian Foreign Ministry. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that representatives of Georgia, who were also invited, abstained from participating in the meeting, but the door is always open to them.
Following this, in 2023 in Iran, and in 2024 in Turkey, meetings of representatives of this platform at the level of the foreign ministers of five countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, and Turkey were held. Georgia again did not participate in the platform's work. The parties agreed to hold the next meeting in either Baku or Yerevan. However, a final agreement on the meeting location has not yet been reached.
