ArmInfo. Mother Armenia Party Chairman Andranik Tevanyan, currently under arrest at the Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary (better known as the NSS basements - ed.), issued an appeal titled "For Whom the Bell Tolls" following the arrest of businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party. His appeal was published on the official Mother Armenia Party Facebook page.
The politician noted that, under Nikol Pashinyan's illegal orders, opposition figures, parties, and individuals in positions of power are being subjected to political persecution, arrests, and arbitrary actions by "law enforcement agencies."
In this vein, Tevanyan recalled that the authorities have resorted to repression against Mother Armenia and noted that over the past 44 days, searches have been conducted at his home, office, and garage, as well as at the homes of his party board members Aregnaz Manukyan and Yervand Bozoyan. He asserted that these events are not isolated criminal cases, but part of a larger campaign against the opposition.
"This is not an isolated attack against our Church, Mother Armenia, the Prosperous Armenia Party, the ARF, Strong Armenia, Hayakve, Avetik Chalabyan, Gagik Tsarukyan, and other political figures. This is a systemic and large-scale attack against all of us, as large-scale concessions and unprecedented betrayal are being prepared," the politician said in his statement.
According to him, Nikol Pashinyan has drawn Armenia into such a dangerous game that Armenia could only suffer the fate of Artsakh in an even worse scenario. The politician added that Ursula von der Leyen, who makes beautifully packaged false promises to Armenian farmers, can at best provide tents and a pittance of second-rate money for Armenian refugees, although they may not even do that.
Tevanyan also believes that the authorities intend to expand the circle of persecuted persons in Armenia. "Right now, they're focusing on Gagik Tsarukyan. They're making a show of searches. Tomorrow, they'll move on to others. All reasonable forces must join forces. If anyone thinks that only Mother Armenia or another political force is being persecuted and that it doesn't concern them, they're deeply mistaken. Therefore, we must rule out fragmented, small-scale, opportunistic approaches and draw the right conclusions. Later will be too late. Using a classic formulation, I'll conclude my speech: ask not for whom the bell tolls, for they toll for you," the politician concluded.
As a reminder, Andranik Tevanyan was arrested in late May 2026 after the Central Electoral Commission granted the Prosecutor General's Office's petition to initiate criminal proceedings against him.
The politician is accused of transferring information containing state secrets to a foreign party. Tevanyan denies the charges, calling the criminal case politically motivated. In recent days, law enforcement agencies have also conducted searches at the homes of several representatives of the Mother Armenia party, including board members Yervand Bozoyan and Aregnaz Manukyan.
