ArmInfo. Around 18,000 drivers previously revoked their driving licenses will be eligible for reinstatement. Ruslan Marandyan, Head of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, announced this at a press conference on July 6, providing details on the new procedures and deadlines for those revoked.
According to the official, citizens whose driver's licenses were revoked on or before July 5, 2026, can apply for reinstatement within one year, starting on July 6. "If the license revocation period has not yet expired, the driver must wait until it expires, after which they will be able to take advantage of the reinstatement opportunity by reapplying within one year and paying the established state fee," Marandyan said.
According to the new rules, drivers are offered two options: either pass the qualifying exams and receive the standard 13 points, or opt for a probationary period and immediately receive 6 points instead of the exam. In the latter case, the change will apply to all categories and subcategories of driver's licenses. The new regulation aims to clarify the procedure for reinstating driver's licenses, particularly for those who were deprived of their licenses after 2020 and whose validity has already expired.
ArmInfo, citing Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan, previously reported that, starting July 6, individuals in Armenia who had their driver's licenses revoked for administrative offenses will be able to have them reinstated without retaking the exam. According to the minister, if the driver's license revocation period has already expired as of July 6, citizens will have one year to register on the Interior Ministry's online platform to reinstate their license without retaking the exam. The state fee will be 50,000 drams. The plan also includes the automatic collection of driver health information from the ArMed system, including information on addictions and mental illnesses. This information may serve as grounds for revoking a driver's license. Furthermore, it is proposed to extend the validity period of a passing theoretical exam result from one to two years. This will allow citizens more time to take the practical exam and will make the procedure more flexible. Another change concerns the content of the theoretical exams. Questions will be tailored to the category of vehicle the candidate is applying to drive. Thus, applicants for Category A, B, and C licenses and the corresponding subcategories will be asked only questions specific to these categories, while applicants for Category D, T, and subcategory D1 licenses will be asked questions specifically related to these modes of transport. The changes regarding the new theoretical exam format will come into effect on September 1, 2026, allowing for the adaptation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' digital systems.
