ArmInfo. Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court has granted the Prosecutor's Office's motion to arrest Artem and Aram Khachatryan—the son and nephew, respectively, of Gagik Khachatryan, the former head of the Ministry of Finance and the State Revenue Committee. Both individuals have been arrested in absentia.
The bail of over $500,000 previously posted by the pair has been transferred to the state budget. Additionally, in July 2024, a luxury mansion in Los Angeles belonging to the Khachatryan family was confiscated.
Regarding this development, defense attorney Yerem Sargsyan stated to reporters that the court's decision is a blow to justice. According to Sargsyan, the court failed to account for the fact that both brothers are experiencing health issues, which prevented them from attending the hearing. The defense provided medical documentation stating that the brothers were prohibited from air travel, which precluded their return to Armenia. The prosecution requested the arrests specifically due to the brothers' absence from court, a motion the defense team categorically rejects.
