ArmInfo. The Armenian investigative body has filed a motion to extend the pretrial detention of opposition politician Armen Ashotyan by two months, as reported by lawyer Ruben Melikyan. According to him, the Anti-Corruption Court is scheduled to hear the motion tomorrow, July 2, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
"I would like to remind you that Ashotyan was taken into custody on June 5, and the court initially ordered his arrest for a one-month term. Taking into account the 777 days he spent in custody during the previous case, Armen Ashotyan's total time in detention under the current regime now exceeds 800 days," Melikyan noted.
Recall, earlier, the Investigative Committee made the decision to detain a group of former high-ranking officials—including Armen Ashotyan—as part of criminal proceedings regarding allegations of abuse of office and money laundering. In the same case, decisions were made to arrest former Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan, former Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan, his son Artem Khachatryan, as well as the former rector and vice-rector of the Valery Bryusov State University.
