ArmInfo. The Armenian government does not see a need to respond to the recent recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the state of Israel. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this on June 29 while speaking with journalists, in response to a question regarding why Armenia has remained silent following the Israeli government's formal recognition of the genocide.
"We do not see a necessity for a formal response. We believe that avoiding the 'militarization' of the issue—regarding the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire—is in Armenia's best interest," Pashinyan said, adding that he considers further comment on the matter unnecessary.
As previously reported, on June 28, the Israeli government unanimously recognized the mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire during World War I as Genocide. The initiative was introduced by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar. The document will now be sent to the Knesset for approval.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a sharp critique of Israel's decision. Additionally, on June 29, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement calling on Israel to reconsider its position.
