ArmInfo. On June 26, Judge David Dabaghyan of the Aragatsotn Region Court of General Jurisdiction issued a ruling lifting the travel ban that prevented Father Garegin Arsenyan, the abbot of the Saint George (Surb Gevorg) Monastery in Mughni, from visiting his place of service.
According to the court's ruling, Garegin Arsenyan is permitted to visit Surb Gevorg Monastery and celebrate liturgies. However, he is prohibited from communicating with other clergy of the diocese.
Recall, on October 15, it was reported that a group of clergy from the Aragatsotn Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church were detained. The detentions followed a formal report filed with investigative authorities by Daniel Ioannisyan, head of the NGO "Union of Informed Citizens." The complaint was based on an interview given on September 16 by Father Aram Arakelyan, the then- spiritual leader of the Hovhanavank Monastery. In that broadcast, Arakelyan alleged that he had been coerced into participating in opposition rallies in 2021. Following his arrest on October 16, 2025, Father Garegin Arsenyan spent one month in custody. On November 7, 2025, the court commuted his pretrial detention to house arrest, and subsequently, in February 2026, replaced those measures with administrative supervision and a travel ban.
