Armenian Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan and Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, discussed progress in the implementation of the Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan, as well as the progress of judicial, legal, and constitutional reforms in the country, at a meeting in Yerevan.
According to the ministry's press service, Galyan also touched upon a number of industry-specific issues, discussing with the EU Ambassador the process of parole and the issue of the ratio of convicted and detained persons in penal institutions.
In addition, the parties discussed upcoming meetings in Yerevan within the framework of the Armenia-EU Human Rights Dialogue and the Subcommittees on Justice, Freedom, and Security, and exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
As a reminder, the start The visa liberalization negotiations between Armenia and the European Union were opened in December 2024. The negotiations were led by Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan and the European Commission's Deputy Director-General for Migration and Home Affairs, Johannes Lüchner. Key areas of cooperation included reforms in key areas crucial to achieving visa-free travel with the EU. These areas include document security, border and migration management, mobility and asylum policy, the fight against corruption and organized crime, and the protection of citizens' fundamental rights. The parties then mutually confirmed that the process had no deadline for completing the negotiations. On November 5, the EU submitted a visa liberalization action plan to Armenia.
