ArmInfo.Azerbaijan's aggressive plans against Armenia became possible solely as a result of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's decisions on the Artsakh issue. This was written on her Facebook page by Azerbaijani expert Tatevik Hayrapetyan, amid Azerbaijan's active promotion of a false narrative and vocal territorial claims regarding Armenia's sovereign territories.
The expert expressed her conviction that by aggressively promoting a state concept bearing the historically unspecified name "Western Azerbaijan," the Azerbaijani leadership, in addition to its dangerous occupational agenda, is also waging a moral and psychological war of aggression against Armenians. In this regard, she recalled that days earlier, on the direct orders of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijanis had gathered in Nakhichevan, where, nearly 20 years ago, they had completely wiped the rich cultural heritage of Armenians off the face of the earth.
"At this meeting, they called our state their 'homeland,' and then renamed it 'Western Azerbaijan,' after which they became so brazen that they posted a video from the streets of Yerevan and declared, 'Look, this is our land.' This absurdity is so vast and unbelievable that sometimes you wonder: how is this possible? Then you return to simple human logic and conclude that Azerbaijan is an aggressive and genocidal state, which it has always been and remains. And for them, propaganda of occupation and hatred against Armenia and Armenians is as commonplace as drinking water," the Azerbaijani expert wrote.
At the same time, she noted that the current Armenian leadership had increased these "appetites" with its concessions. "The collaborators in power in Armenia, groveling before Aliyev, only increased his appetite. The more they made concessions, the more dangerous Azerbaijan became vis-a-vis our state," Hayrapetyan noted.
Meanwhile, according to the expert, during this meeting, Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev bluntly stated: "The issue of Western Azerbaijan is of strategic importance." In other words, Hayrapetyan explained, this means that expansionist plans against Armenia have become their new state strategy. "And this became possible only after Pashinyan's decisions on the Artsakh issue, as Azerbaijan would never have dared to make such a statement before.
Moreover, Aliyev himself acknowledged this truth, stating that "it was premature to talk about this before the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was resolved," the Azerbaijani expert noted.
Moreover, according to Hayrapetyan, since the introduction of this aggressive concept on December 24, 2022, every diplomatic, political, and informational means could have been used to make it a huge headache for the Azerbaijani leadership-so much so that Aliyev would regret using this term.
"Every opportunity for this was and is, but the current leadership, instead of acting, is simply fighting against our identity, the foundations of the state, the Declaration of Independence, the army, Artsakh, the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), and national dignity, in accordance with Aliyev's demands," the expert concluded.
Following the violent seizure of Artsakh, Azerbaijan began promoting a new narrative about so-called "Western Azerbaijan." Thus, the Azerbaijani authorities are attempting to advance the creeping occupation of Armenia by Azerbaijanis, attempting to resettle approximately 300,000 Azerbaijanis in Armenia. Moreover, at the collapse of the USSR, fewer than 80,000 Azerbaijanis lived in Armenia. These Azerbaijanis left Armenia voluntarily in the late 1990s, receiving compensation from the Armenian state for their abandoned property, unlike the approximately 500,000 Armenians living in Azerbaijan. The latter fled Azerbaijan, trying to save their lives amid pogroms, often naked.
