ArmInfo. The Central Election Commission (CEC) has granted both motions submitted by the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia to strip David Ghazinyan, a parliamentary candidate from the "Strong Armenia" bloc, of his immunity and authorize his subsequent arrest. This was reported to journalists by Aram Vardevanyan, a lawyer and member of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, outside the CEC building.
According to Vardevanyan, it was unreasonable to expect any other decision from the CEC. "The commission granted both motions from the Prosecutor General's Office despite the absence of any reasonable grounds for doing so. Even though Ghazinyan has remained at liberty since the Anti-Corruption Committee published the audio recordings, and all materials related to the criminal proceedings were essentially in the public domain, the matter will now be reviewed by the court," Vardevanyan stated.
However, according to him, the specifics of the charges remain unclear. The lawyer merely stated that the case concerns "preparation to give a bribe." "The content of the charges is politically motivated. I have never seen such a motion before and have never encountered a case like this. Ghazinyan was well aware of the proceedings, did not obstruct them, did not attempt to flee, and did not attempt to commit a crime," the lawyer concluded.
