According to the Museum-Institute's press service, the visit was organized within the framework of an agreement signed last year by the mayors of Yerevan and Leipzig to organize a cultural year between Leipzig and Yerevan, to promote cultural cooperation and exchange between the two cities.
The delegation included representatives from the Leipzig municipality and the city's leading cultural institutions.
Recall, on June 2, 2016, the German Bundestag adopted a resolution classifying the mass extermination of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1916 as genocide. The resolution was adopted almost unanimously—one member abstained and one voted against. The resolution not only recognizes the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey in the early 20th century, but also acknowledges Germany's responsibility for these events.
