ArmInfo. The current Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, bears personal responsibility for attacks on opposition members, as stated by Edmon Marukyan, Bright Armenia Party leader, during a rally outside the government building on June 4.
According to him, under the Constitution adopted in 2015, the Prime Minister is effectively the head of the police as well; consequently, he bears responsibility for the acts of violence and attacks currently being carried out against activists from various political forces. The politician noted that electing Pashinyan to a third term would lead to an increase in instances of violence, the restriction of freedoms, and dictatorship. As a result, the current hybrid, semi-authoritarian regime would become fundamentally authoritarian. "We have already seen what election to a third term can lead to," he noted. "When something happens involving the authorities, there is a swift response. But when it concerns an opposition activist, they investigate for months, search for security cameras to find something out, and then close the case. This is selective justice. We strictly condemn this approach and demand that the highest-ranking official put an end to this practice," Marukyan stated.
