
ArmInfo. Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisogomonyan participated and delivered a speech at the high-level regional event titled "Sustainable National School Meals in Global and Regional Context."
According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the meeting was attended by high-level delegations from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, who arrived in Armenia on a technical study visit, as well as representatives from the World Food Program's Brazil Center of Excellence Against Hunger.
In his opening remarks, Abisogomonyan emphasized the importance of organizing the study visit to Armenia, focusing on developing cooperation and sharing best practices among countries in the context of global challenges to food security, climate change, and supply chain disruptions. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the School Meals program is a significant example of Armenia's best practices in social protection, healthy nutrition, and children's lifestyles. The program's role in strengthening local communities and developing more sustainable food systems was emphasized.
Abisoghomonyan highly appreciated the collaboration with the Armenian branch of the World Food Programme during the development and implementation of the program. The program's role in strengthening national institutional capacity was also emphasized, as the Armenian government is currently implementing it in the regions. From 2010 to 2024, Russia financed four phases of the school meals project in Armenia, totaling $43 million. The fifth phase, which aims to develop a sustainable nutrition system in Armenia, is currently underway from 2025 to 2030, with Russia's targeted contribution to the WFP fund totaling over $25 million.
