ArmInfo. In a strong Armenia, extreme poverty must be eradicated, as stated by Aram Vardevanyan, a representative of the Strong Armenia party, in his video address.
According to him, in 2021, the poverty rate in Armenia was 27%. At the time, the ruling Civil Contract party campaigned on a promise to slash that figure in half. Meanwhile, according to the latest official data, the poverty rate in the country is approximately 22%, with approximately 30,000 people living in extreme poverty. "This proves the current government has completely failed its fundamental social obligations," Vardevanyan stated. "Amid a backdrop of pervasive falsehoods and manipulated data, it is an undeniable fact that when it comes to public welfare the most critical benchmark of governance actions over the last eight years have moved in the exact opposite direction."
He added that party leader Samvel Karapetyan is taking responsibility for addressing the issue of extreme poverty. A special, specific fund with specific action plans, including assistance and benefit programs, will be established to address the issue.
