ArmInfo. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed a feeling of bitterness regarding the incident in Vedi involving two girls, aged 15 and 17, who were subjected to sexual violence.
Speaking with journalists on May 11, the Prime Minister noted that he had reached out to law enforcement agencies for an inquiry into the matter and had received specific information. He remarked that he demanded the officials in charge approach the issue with the same level of responsibility they would show if a similar tragedy had happened to their own child.
The Prime Minister emphasized that when political platforms use slogans like "Armenia is my home, the people are my family," this sentiment must be reflected in the daily operations of state structures, including the law enforcement system. Pashinyan considers any deviation from this principle to be unacceptable. He added that law enforcement must analyze their performance, and those in the regional structures who allowed lapses to occur must be held appropriately accountable.
Recall, the sexual assault involving two sisters, aged 15 and 17, took place in Vedi in early February. A total of three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. It has also been reported that the heads of the regional law enforcement agencies—the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Investigative Committee, and the Prosecutor's Office—have been dismissed from their posts.
