ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane exchanged views on cooperation between Armenia and the ICC at a meeting in Yerevan.
According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry's press service, the discussion focused, in particular, on participation in international efforts aimed at upholding international law and ensuring the rule of law. As a reminder, Armenia became a full member of the ICC on February 1, 2024, becoming the 124th State Party to accede to the Rome Statute and the 19th State Party from the Eastern European group.
The Armenian Parliament ratified the Rome Statute on October 3, 2023. At that time, 60 members of parliament from the ruling Civil Contract party voted in favor of joining the ICC. Opposition forces represented in the Armenian parliament voted against ratification.
Moscow had previously called Yerevan's ratification of the Rome Statute of the ICC unacceptable, given the court's orders against the Russian leadership.
