ArmInfo. The only way to stop the genocide and ensure a safe and dignified life for the people in their homeland is to create a strong and durable Armenian state. This is what Avetik Chalabyan, a public figure and coordinator of the "Hayaqve" initiative, wrote on his Facebook page.
"Today marks the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. A genocide that broke the backbone of our nation, deprived us of a significant part of our historical homeland, and turned us into refugees and migrants. A genocide that is still being perpetrated against us by the same misanthropic monster-the occupation of Artsakh, the deportation of its indigenous inhabitants, and the widespread destruction of our sacred sites. The only way to stop the genocide and ensure a safe and dignified life for our people in their homeland is a strong and resilient Armenian state," Chalabyan noted.
He added that every Armenian must serve this goal. "Any other goal, personal or collective, must be subordinated to this one. Only in this way can we stop this monstrous wheel and confidently build our future on this sacred land," the head of the initiative noted.
As a reminder, on April 24, the Armenian people commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide, committed in the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century. As a result of this planned and unprecedented crime, 1.5 million Armenians were killed between 1915 and 1923, and hundreds of thousands were subjected to violence and forced deportation. Armenian authorities have officially stated that international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is not a priority today. Meanwhile, the fact of the Armenian Genocide has been recognized by many states and international organizations.
