ArmInfo.Ehsan Movahedian, a lecturer at Tehran's ATU University (Allameh Tabatabai) and an international relations scholar specializing in the Caucasus region, particularly relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as neighboring countries in the region, has slammed Armenia for congratulating Israel on Independence Day.
The Iranian expert described the congratulations posted by the Armenian Foreign Ministry on Twitter (X) on Israel's Independence Day as a "bitter sarcasm". "In reality this is a bitter sarcasm! In those days when the entire world is condemning Israel's crimes and keeping its distance from this regime, the Armenian government, it seems, is living in a different reality! This congratulation is taking place when the Israelis have repeatedly damaged Armenian property in the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem, spat on Armenian clergy, attacked their churches, and are attempting to seize the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem," the Iranian expert wrote on X.
He also noted that Israel views the reality of the Armenian Genocide as a "rival" to the Holocaust and opposes that narrative. "The intelligence and military support provided by Israel to Baku led to the occupation of Karabakh and the expulsion of 120,000 Armenians living there," Movahedian added.
It is worth noting that the velvet authorities of Armenia, who took over the country after 2018, have set a course to strengthening existing relations with Israel. Resident embassies were established in the capitals of both countries. Against this backdrop, the Armenian authorities have not commented on the increasing attacks on the Armenian quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem since 2023.
