ArmInfo. "Trump's Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP) has been seriously questioned as a result of the war over Iran. This was stated by Robert Kocharyan, the prime ministerial candidate from the Armenia bloc and the country's second president, during the latest episode of the "Big Politics" podcast.
"In this situation, I don't see the practical implementation of TRIPP, as it would lead to serious problems with Iran. The only option I see in this situation is expanding this format to include Russia, China-that is, any country Iran perceives as friendly. The other option is problematic," the politician noted. He added that it may be useful as a propaganda tool, but in reality, it's not. He also noted another factor: if sanctions on Iran are lifted and a comprehensive solution is reached, Iranian territory will become the most convenient and shortest transit route to Europe. "This will lead to enormous global changes: China, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Europe. This will be the shortest route. Global changes will occur," he emphasized.
In this regard, Kocharyan emphasized that Armenia should be much more careful in its relations with Iran. "We simply must not take steps that will destroy the relations that have developed over the years. This government is a master at destroying relations. A true master.
I think they now understand that they have problems, but since this is the pre-election period, they will try to cling to the talking points they have already been working on, which they have been preaching for years. However, the problems will be serious. But, I repeat: TRIPP is an American project for Azerbaijan and Turkey," Kocharyan said. He reiterated that he is not opposed to TRIPP, but rather advocates for this project to be in the interests of Armenia, not Turkey and Azerbaijan.
On January 14, the Armenian Foreign Ministry published the framework document signed with the American side in Washington for the implementation of the Trump Roadmap for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). The 12-page document outlines the project's main objectives and operating mechanisms.
Among other things, the document emphasizes that Armenia intends to authorize and support the establishment of the TRIPP Development Company. The company is expected to be responsible for developing the TRIPP project, receiving an initial development right for a period of 49 years. Armenia intends to offer the United States a 74% stake in TRIPP Development Company, retaining 26%. This partnership is expected to be extended for another 50 years, with an additional ownership stake granted to the Armenian government, bringing its stake to 49%.
As a reminder, on August 8, 2025, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a seven-point joint "Declaration of Peace" in Washington. It provides for a joint appeal to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to terminate the OSCE Minsk Process and related structures, as well as the creation of a transport corridor through Armenian territory that will connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave, surrounded by Armenia, Turkey, and Iran.
