ArmInfo. To maintain their power, Armenia's current representatives are once again maneuvering between the West and Russia, becoming pro-Western when necessary, and pro-Russian when necessary. Armen Rustamyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition "Armenia" faction, stated this in a conversation with journalists on April 16.
According to him, their goal is to be acceptable to all parties, but they still need to evaluate the path traveled and the actions taken along the way. For example, in 2021, they ran for election under the pretense that they were defending Russian President Vladimir Putin's signature on the statement of November 9, 2020. "But we all saw what they left of that statement. Now they claim to be the most reliable defenders of Russian interests," Rustamyan noted, adding that the country's authorities' statements are simply incompatible with their actions.
Rustamyan noted that, in the case of relations, the vectors toward the West and Russia have been so shifted that it is unlikely that this pattern will hold. "If relations with Russia haven't worsened, then why did the Russian president speak on camera about the consequences for Armenia of worsening relations with Russia? The authorities refer to the opposition as Kremlin agents on every platform, so European institutions turn a blind eye to human rights violations, believing that they are happening to alleged Kremlin agents. The same thing happened with the church," Rustamyan noted.
