To mark the announcement of Meghri as the CIS Cultural Capital in 2026, official delegations from CIS member states, cultural figures, representatives of the CIS Executive Committee, and the leadership of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS countries arrived in the city.
The goal of the initiative is to strengthen interstate cultural cooperation, exchange experiences, and highlight the role and cultural heritage of Meghri in the regional agenda.
In this regard, various cultural events will be held in Meghri and Agarak on April 16-17. In particular, a groundbreaking ceremony for the square took place today, during which delegation members planted paulownia (Adam's tree) saplings as a symbol of friendship and cooperation among the CIS countries. The park is located on the grounds of Meghri's only kindergarten.
Additionally, the city will host the ARTEXPO exhibition, a stamp cancellation ceremony commemorating "Meghri - Cultural Capital of the CIS," and a gala concert.
