ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has referred to his main political opponent as an " agent of foreign influence," specifically targeting Armenian-Russian businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, who leads the Strong Armenia party.
Today in parliament, Pashinyan used the term in Russian and stated that these forces, through their actions, want to destroy the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), of which Armenia is a full member, and are doing so to further their own narrow personal interests. He stated that claims (Karapetyan's-Ed.) that Pashinyan will launch an economic war with Russia after his re-election are nothing more than the actions of agents of influence who want to drive a wedge between fraternal and friendly nations.
"We will not argue with Russia, and attempts to drag us into a conflict with Russia will fail because it does not serve our country's interests. Our country's interests require a balanced foreign policy, which presupposes good relations with Russia. And we are defending these relations," Pashinyan said. He reiterated his earlier opinion that his last visit to Russia was very successful. "We held very detailed and lengthy discussions and came to strategic agreements in a wide range of areas, the results of which we will soon see."
