ArmInfo. The demand of the President of Azerbaijan to change the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia is nothing more than direct interference in the internal affairs of Armenia and an attack on its sovereignty, Menua Soghomonyan, a member of the Consolidation movement, wrote on his Facebook account.
"Ilham Aliyev officially demanded that the Republic of Armenia renounce the Declaration of Independence. Thus, Baku practically suspended the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan actually agreed to this demand, saying that the mention of the Declaration of Independence should be removed from the preamble of the Constitution through a constitutional referendum," Soghomonyan noted.
He noted that this is Baku's direct interference in the internal affairs of Armenia, a direct attack on the country's sovereignty. "The Armenian people must defend their sovereignty and national rights, first of all, in order to exclude a hostile agenda, and secondly, in order to resist the occupation regime that is implementing this agenda," the public figure emphasized.
As a postscript, he suggested imagining what kind of fuss would have been made if this issue had been raised by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, as a precondition for concluding a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, actually presented an ultimatum to Armenia, demanding changes to the Constitution of Armenia.
The Armenian authorities practically agree with this requirement. On February 1, in an interview with the RA Public Radio, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that if Yerevan's state policy is based on the Declaration of Independence, including reunification with Artsakh, there will be no peace.
