ArmInfo. Russia's interaction with the Armenian side within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is based on pragmatic, mutual benefits. Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated during the briefing on Wednesday, clarifying whether Moscow has any concerns regarding Armenia's chairmanship in the EAEU, considering the tensions that periodically arise in Armenian-Russian relations.
"High growth rates of economic indicators are visible year after year in Armenia itself. We see that Yerevan receives significant dividends from participation in the Union, despite some controversial statements that you mentioned from representatives of the republic. We are establishing a constructive, depoliticized dialogue with our Armenian partners just like other EAEU member states," the Russian diplomat said.
She recalled that from January 1, the chairmanship of the EAEU will pass from Russia to Armenia. "Speaking at the session of the Supreme Economic Council held in St. Petersburg on December 25, the Prime Minister of this country announced that Yerevan is focused on the systematic implementation of tasks within the framework of EAEU in the medium and long term. We support this attitude of our partners to further strengthen and develop the Eurasian economic integration," Zakharova summed up.
According to statistical data, the growth of economic activity amounted to 9.4% per annum in Armenia in January-November 2023.
