ArmInfo. The 4th Global Forum "Against the Crime of Genocide" has opened in Yerevan's Matenadaran today.
Armenia's Premier Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at forum entitled "Prevention of Genocide in the Era of New Technologies", stated that a threat of genocide in the South Caucasus region needs to be averted.
"I should note that the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh have lately sent more and more signals about a potential threat of genocide, and I believe we and the international community must take them seriously," he said.
The trilateral agreement signed after the 44-day war on November 9, 2022, seemed to provide mechanisms preventing a genocide, "but, regrettably, later, step by step, we could see the reality making the voiced concerns more and more serious," Mr Pashinyan said.
He reminded the attendees of a Karabakh farmer killed by an Azerbaijani sniper last year. Later, Azerbaijani military units entered the Russian peacekeepers' responsibility zone, with "noteworthy developments."
Specifically, at night Azerbaijani trooped switched on the lights and loud Muslim music, threatening the local population and demanding that the people leave their homes.
"Of course, we greatly respect Islam and the Islamic civilization, and the Blue Mosque in central Yerevan is striking evidence thereof. But the aforementioned reality can only be described as 'religious terrorism'. And Azerbaijan's consistent actions arouse mounting concerns over preparations for a new genocide in Nagorno-Karabakh," Mr Pashinyan said.
