ArmInfo. France fully supports the peace agenda in the South Caucasus, as well as initiatives in various areas of EU relations with Azerbaijan.
According to Baku media, Brice Roquefeuy, Ambassador of the French Foreign Ministry for the Eastern Partnership, stated this at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Previously, he served as the French co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, dealing with the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. During the conversation, the successful development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, as well as the participation of the head of state in the Eastern Partnership Summit of the European Union in Brussels in December last year was emphasized.
Issues of the post-conflict period and the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, negotiations for the preparation of a peace treaty, delimitation of borders were discussed at the meeting. Stressing that the 5 principles put forward by Baku were accepted by the Armenian side, Aliyev announced the readiness of the Azerbaijani delegation to start negotiations on a peace treaty.
During the conversation, Azerbaijani-French relations were touched upon. Aliyev recalled the meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Brussels last December and the video meeting in February this year. Aliyev also recalled that he had sent congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as President of the French Republic.
