ArmInfo. Within the framework of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with colleagues from Syria, Romania and Belgium. Referring to the Syrian crisis, Mirzoyan noted that from the very first day of the crisis,
Armenia spoke in favor of preserving the unity and sovereignty of Syria and for resolving the problem through a comprehensive dialogue. The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Syria noted with satisfaction the centuries-old Armenian-Syrian friendship, stressing the important role of the Armenian community of Syria in relations between the two countries. The sides expressed concern over the involvement of terrorist mercenaries from Syria by Azerbaijan in the unleashed aggression against Artsakh.
At the meeting between Mirzoyan and his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu, the importance of further development of the Armenian-Romanian historical friendly relations based on mutual trust was emphasized. The parties discussed the deepening of the political dialogue between the two countries, special attention was paid to the prospects for bilateral economic cooperation, in particular, in the field of information technology. Ararat Mirzoyan and Bogdan Aurescu exchanged views on Armenia-EU cooperation, effective implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, as well as the agenda of the Eastern Partnership program. Touching upon the situation resulting from the Azerbaijani aggression, Ararat Mirzoyan stressed the imperative of the return of Armenian prisoners of war and civilian hostages held in Azerbaijan. The importance of resuming the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co- chairmanship was noted. With the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Sophie Wilmes, the Armenian Foreign Minister discussed the issues of strengthening interaction at bilateral and multilateral platforms, as well as expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The interlocutors touched upon the issues of regional security and stability. In this context, the importance of a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co- chairmanship was noted. Ararat Mirzoyan noted with satisfaction the resolutions adopted by the Senate and the House of Representatives of Belgium, which expressed support for a political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the resolution of the House of Representatives, which emphasized the need to release the Armenian prisoners of war and civilian hostages held by Azerbaijan. During the meeting, they touched upon the prospects of Armenia-EU cooperation.
