The US House of  Representatives overwhelmingly passed an amendment by Congressman  Frank Pallone (D-NJ), which calls for increased Congressional  oversight of military assistance programs provided by the United  States to Azerbaijan. The Armenian National Committee of America  (ANCA) reports.

ANCA Executive Director Aram Ambaryan expressed gratitude Congressmen  Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Jackie Speyer (D-CA), Adam Schiff (D-CA) and  Brad Sherman for asking the administration to increase transparency  and accountability of defense assistance to the regime Aliyev.

As ArmInfo previously reported, US congressmen initiated  consideration in the US House of Representatives of a number of  amendments in favor of peace to the main bill on authorizing the  Pentagon, including blocking the defense support of the United States  to Azerbaijan.

Thus, Amendment 66 to the Law on State Defense for Fiscal Year 2021  (HR 6395), proposed by Congressman Brad Sherman, prescribes that "no  funds allowed by this bill can be used to transfer defense items or  services to Azerbaijan, unless the President confirms to Congress  that the transfer of such defensive items or services does not  threaten civil aviation. " The amendment was co-sponsored by Frank  Pallone (D-NJ), Jackie Speyer (D-CA), Adam Schiff (D-CA) and TJ Cox  (D-CA).

The second initiative, Amendment No. 397, initiated by Rep. Frank  Pallone (D-NJ), requires the Department of Defense to submit to  Congress a report on the US military assistance program (known as  Section 333), which sent more than $ 120 million in defense aid to  Azerbaijan. for the last few years. The initiative is supported by  Sherman, Speyer and Schiff.

The vote on the National Defense Act, to which the Pallone amendment  was added, will take place on Tuesday, July 21st. A vote in the  Senate is expected in the near future. The final vote on them is  likely to take place in November.
