ArmInfo. The Armenian Assembly of America (AAA) welcomes the statement of former Senator and Vice President Joe Biden, dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, where he promises to recognize this crime against humanity in the event of election to the US President.
The AAA noted that Baden's statement on April 24 was the culmination of his many years of activity in support of the recognition of the genocide, especially during his service in the US Senate. It should be noted that on the eve of the former US vice president, presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, in his statement on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, noted that, if elected to the post of President of the United States, he undertakes to support the resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide and make universal Human rights are the top priority of their administration.
"Today we recall the atrocities that the Armenian people faced during the Metz Ehern - Armenian Genocide. From 1915 to 1923, nearly 2 million Armenians were deported, and 1.5 million men, women and children were killed. Greeks, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Syrians, Aramaeans, Maronites and other Christians were also targeted. We should never forget or be silent about this terrible and systematic campaign of annihilation. And we will always respect the perseverance of the Armenian people after such a tragedy. It is especially important to pronounce these words and honor the memory of this story at a time when we are daily reminded of the power of truth and our shared responsibility to resist hatred, because silence is complicity. If we do not fully recognize, celebrate or inform our children about the genocide, the words lose their meaning. The facts must be as clear and convincing for future generations as for those whose memories are clouded by tragedy. Failure to recall or acknowledge the fact of genocide only opens the way for future mass atrocities.
Over the years in the Senate, I have proudly led efforts to recognize the Armenian Genocide. Last year, I was pleased to approve bipartisan legislation in the House and Senate, which officially recognized the Armenian Genocide.
If elected, I pledge to support the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide and make universal human rights a top priority for my administration.
Today I'm next to all the Armenians and the Armenian-American community that has done so much for our nation, remembering and honoring the victims of the Armenian Genocide, "said Biden's statement, quoted by AAA.
It should be noted that Joe Biden is not the first presidential candidate who promises to recognize the Armenian Genocide if elected to this high position. Earlier, Barack Obama made the same promise, who quickly forgot about the promise made to the Armenians of America and never used the term Armenian Genocide in his speeches on the occasion of the events of 1915 throughout his presidency
