ArmInfo. There can be no military solution to the Karabakh problem. This opinion was expressed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, answering questions from members of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee in Brussels.
According to the prime minister, the parties must create an appropriate atmosphere for achieving a peaceful settlement. "In September, I made an unprecedented statement in the parliament that the settlement of the conflict should be acceptable to the peoples of Armenia, Karabakh and Azerbaijan. I hoped that such a statement would be voiced also in Azerbaijan, by the president of that country, but, unfortunately, these hopes were not fulfilled. On the contrary, Azerbaijan continues to voice threats, declaring that they are ready to resolve this issue by force, without taking into account the interests of the people of Nagorno- Karabakh and Armenia. I think that in these conditions it is difficult to expect a speedy solution to the problem, "said Pashinyan.
Nikol Pashinyan also pointed out the importance of the format of negotiations. "At the international level, it is recognized that the Karabakh conflict has three parties, which was recorded at the OSCE summit in Budapest in 1994. However, so far only two parties have been involved in the negotiation process, "he said. As Pashinyan stressed, he is the head of the government of Armenia, and not of Nagorno-Karabakh. "The residents of Nagorno-Karabakh do not participate in elections in Armenia and are not citizens of the Republic of Armenia, therefore I cannot conduct negotiations on their behalf. Therefore, the second side of the question is the following: a format should be created that corresponds to the negotiations, which is impossible without involving Nagorno-Karabakh "- noted Nikol Pashinyan.
