ArmInfo.Armenia does not plan to take part in military operations in Syria, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said from the rostrum of the parliament, referring to the words of RA Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan about the possible participation of the Armenian contingent in military actions in Syria if necessary. "We have a humanitarian mission in Syria.
As for the answer of the Minister of Defense, we need to find out what question sounded, in what context this statement was made. We have no such plans," Pashinyan said. To note, on the eve of the press conference, Tonoyan said: "If there is a need to participate in hostilities, then Armenia will also do this in accordance with the laws of the country."
The US has already negatively responded to sending the Armenian mission to Syria and Armenia's cooperation on this issue with Russia: "We do not support this initiative," the State Department said in a statement. On February 8, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported that a group of 83 Armenian specialists arrived in Syria. The group includes humanitarian demining specialists, medical personnel and brigades ensuring the protection of the specialists themselves. Sending humanitarian contingent to Syria was announced in September last year. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the humanitarian operation in Syria an Armenian-Russian humanitarian project unprecedented in scale.
