ArmInfo. The Sasna Tsrer Party made a statement in connection with the rallies demanding the release of the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian. The statement noted that Kocharyan's political path was bloody.
"His rule in Armenia ended on March 1, 2008,when people were shot in the center of Yerevan. His supporters in Stepanakert, during the rally, rejected the idea of the need to unite Artsakh and Armenia. For Robert Kocharyan and his supporters, a state is needed in which they will be in power, "the statement says. The statement also notes that while in support of a person who is accused of overthrowing the constitutional order, rallies are held, Armen Bilyan and Smbat Barseghyan (members of the Sasna Crer group - Ed.) are in prison. In conclusion, the representatives of the party call on them to abandon double standards and release from prison all worthy people, in particular, Armen Bilyan and Smbat Barseghyan.
It should be noted that on December 11, about 80 people responded to the appeal of the initiative group "Freedom to the President" demanding the immediate release from detention of the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian. According to participants of the protest action, unprecedented pressure was put on the courts of the republic, and if Robert Kocharyan was not released, this would mean the absence of independent courts in the country.Recall that on December 7, the Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the first instance for the arrest of RA 2nd President Robert Kocharian. Without waiting for the transfer of the verdict to the investigator, Robert Kocharyan himself appeared in the "Kentron" penitentiary unit, where he was later arrested. The office of the second president of Armenia called the arrest a political vendetta. The RPA, however, qualified this as pre-election pressure from the current government on political opponents.
