ArmInfo.The member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization are continuing intensive consultations on the issue of replacing the organization's Secretary General, Yuri Khachaturov, a solution must be acceptable to everyone, Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Armenian investigators charged Khachaturov with overthrowing the constitutional order in a criminal case on dispersing protest actions on March 1, 2008. The court released Khachaturov on bail. Armenia proposed the CSTO countries to begin the process of replacing the organization's secretary general.
"Consultations on this issue are continuing, intensive consultations, both in the capitals of the CSTO member states and at headquarters at the level of the Permanent Council of the CSTO. We are confident that a solution will be found mutually acceptable for all parties in accordance with the charter of our organization," Abdrakhmanov told RIA News.
He noted that "intensive work in this direction involves avoiding any consequences for the normal functioning of both the CSTO secretariat and the organization as a whole". "I am sure that this situation will not bring any negative consequences for the full-scale activities of the CSTO. A process of consultations and negotiations is underway, which is typical of any organization during the replacement of the secretariat's leadership," the Kazakh Foreign Minister concluded.
