ArmInfo. The head of the Special Investigation Service of Armenia, Sasun Khachatryan, admits the possibility of summoning for the questioning of ex-President Serzh Sargsyan and former Speaker of Parliament and former Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan within the framework of the March 1, 2008 investigation. He stated this on August 2 in an interview with reporters.
As Khachatryan pointed out, the investigator determines the necessity of calling for interrogation. Both the call for interrogation and the refusal to conduct it, as the head of the investigative body believes, should be justified. "I, as the head of the SIS, repeatedly said that if during the investigation it is established that any official can provide information relevant to the investigation, then he will be questioned," he said.
A month earlier the head of the SIS said that the SIS in their actions is not constrained by individuals and within the "March 1" case all persons who may have any information will be summoned for questioning. The circle of witnesses and accused, as he said then, can expand. After that, the ex-minister Seyran Ohanyan and the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, then Yuri Khachaturov and the vice- premier Armen Gevorgyan were summoned for interrogation, and former defense minister Mikael Harutyunyan was declared internationally wanted by the Interpol after his failure to appear in the investigative body.
