ArmInfo. Actor Hayk Marutyan, better known as "Kargin Hayko" was nominated as a candidate for the post of Mayor of Yerevan from the party "Civil Contract". This was announced by the deputy of the National Assembly, a member of the "Civil Contract" party and former member of the Council of Elders of Yerevan, Alen Simonyan, on July 29 following the meeting of the party's board.
The election of the candidate for the post of mayor, according to him, took place in two stages. Hayk Marutyan and Alen Simonyan took part in the second round. "As a result of voting of the second stage my friend Hayk Marutyan became the first number," Simonyan said. He called on everyone to support the candidacy of Marutyan.
As Alen Simonyan said, the question of the party's participation in the forthcoming elections as part of the bloc "Elk" ("Exit") was not discussed at the meeting.
Initially the party "Civil Contract" considered four candidates for the post of the mayor of the capital: Alen Simonyan, Hayk Marutyan, Zaruhi Batoyan and Srbui Ghazaryan.
Hayk Marutyan actively participated in rallies in the days of the velvet revolution, supported the leader of the opposition movement, now Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Later, Marutyan became a member of the party "Civil Contract".
