ArmInfo. On July 6, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian received Simon MacDonald, the permanent deputy state secretary of the Commonwealth of Foreign and Commonwealth of the United Kingdom.
As the press office of the president reports, Sarkissian noted that mutual visits at a high level contribute to the expansion of the dialogue between the two countries.
In his turn, the British diplomat highly appreciated the recent events in Armenia, their peaceful resolution within the framework of the Constitution and the role of the president in this process.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the prospects of the Armenian-British cooperation, noting that there is a great potential for cooperation in many directions, where tangible results can be achieved.
On the same day Simon MacDonald was also received by Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. As the press service of the Foreign Ministry informs, Mnatsakanyan noted with satisfaction that the Armenian-British relations have recently become more active, which is also reflected in the activation of high-level mutual visits. Minister Mnatsakanyan reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to the continuation and expansion of the dialogue between the two countries in order to achieve more tangible results.
Permanent Deputy Secretary of State MacDonald, in turn, noted that now is a great time to be in Armenia, to get first-hand information about developments in the country, as well as discuss ways to expand the Armenian-British agenda.
The Foreign Minister briefed the interlocutor on the recent domestic political developments in Armenia, stressing the commitment of the new government to pursuing consistent reforms and stressing the importance of supporting the reform process for Armenia's partners.
Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Simon MacDonald touched on Armenia-EU partnership and importance of the Agreement on comprehensive and expanded partnership. In this regard, Minister Mnatsakanyan expressed the hope that Britain will soon ratify the agreement.
The head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry and the Permanent Under Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom also touched upon topical international and regional issues, exchanged views on the situation in Syria and the latest developments around Iran's nuclear program.
