ArmInfo. A high-level delegation of the European Parliament headed by the head of the foreign policy committee David McAllister will visit Armenia on June 18.
As the press service of the EU diplomatic mission in Armenia told ArmInfo, the delegation consists of 9 deputies. The purpose of the visit is to assess the current state of Armenia-EU relations, as well as efforts to implement reforms ahead of the voting for a new agreement between Yerevan and Brussels.
According to the report, the delegation will hold meetings with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Speaker of Parliament Ara Babloyan, with Armenian ministers, deputies, as well as representatives of civil society. "Representatives of the European Parliament will assess the political situation in Armenia, as well as the current level of Armenia-EU relations, in the context of the recent political upheavals that led to the change of power in the country," the diplomatic mission said in a statement. the foreign relations of the European Parliament on May 16 issued a statement welcoming the citizens of Armenia regarding the peaceful change of power. They also by the overwhelming majority approved the agreement on the Comprehensive and Enhanced EU-Armenia Partnership, which will open new opportunities for deepening cooperation in various fields. It is also reported that the final vote in the European Parliament will be held in July in Strasbourg.
McAllister stressed on the eve of the visit that this moment is very remarkable from the point of view of strengthening democracy in Armenia and deepening the relations between the EU and Armenia. "The citizens of Armenia have high expectations, they want to become eyewitnesses of radical reforms, the European Parliament attaches great importance to the processes in Armenia and the aspirations of citizens, for this reason we are preparing to hold meetings with the country's authorities and representatives of civil society - up to the final vote in the European Parliament," European MP.
