ArmInfo.Improvement of relations between Russia and the West in the short term is not expected, in these relations a completely new stage has begun, and there are practically no options for settling the relations. This April 11 at a press conference said the director of the Institute "Caucasus" Alexander Iskandaryan.
Political expert stated that now Russia has found itself in a rather complicated political and economic situation. According to the expert, US sanctions have had a significant impact on the economic situation in Russia, which will continue to deteriorate.
Iskandaryan said that the use of chemical weapons in the Duma was just an excuse for the Americans to further escalate the situation. At the same time, he stressed that a radical change in the situation in Syria will require a large-scale war, like the one that occurred in Iraq. However, according to the expert, this is unlikely.
According to the political scientist, at the moment, with the help of Russia and Iran, President Assad managed to achieve considerable success, and he controls most of the Syrian territories. "To date, Syria no longer has the opposition that could really resist Assad." At the moment, the president has problems only with Kurdish-speaking territories that want autonomy, and with that part of Syria in which the Turkish army has settled. "For a radical change balance of forces, simple bombing that the US is not going to organize, "Iskandaryan said, adding that everything that is possible in Syria in the near future is a separate blow to the Syrian bases, nothing more.
"However, the situation should be viewed in a broader perspective, this is not a Syrian problem, it is a matter of a clash of interests between the two superpowers, and worst of all, there is no need to expect warming of relations in the long term," the expert said.
At the same time, he expressed the opinion that the situation prevailing in the Middle East is unlikely to affect Armenia. "Armenia is the country that has always managed to maintain good relations with both Russia and the West.We have already learned to exist in rather difficult situations. For example, we are one of those countries that works very closely with Iran under US sanctions, In addition, during the deterioration of relations between Russia and Georgia, we were able to calmly interact with both countries, so I think that this whole situation will affect Armenia as little as possible, "the political scientist said.
Iskandaryan also noted that Armenia is not the country for which the superpowers waged a fierce struggle, so we are able to balance and maintain good relations with all geopolitical vectors.
