ArmInfo. In Armenian society there is a consensus on the foreign policy strategy pursued by the authorities of the country. This was stated by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in an interview with Gulf News - an English-language weekly published in the UAE distributed in the countries of Central Asia and the Persian Gulf, as well as to the agency Global FDI reports.
According to him, Armenia's foreign policy is developing in four main directions - to be proactive, involved, stable and to provide a presence wherever its interests require it. "Over the past 10 years, we have continued to make efforts for an exclusively peaceful settlement of the Artsakh issue, and for establishing sustainable peace between Karabakh, Armenia and Azerbaijan." Despite all our efforts and goodwill expressed by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs - the United States, France and Russia, we still have a long way to go: our efforts were later endangered by the violation of the ceasefire by Azerbaijan, which continues to this day Azerbaijan reached its peak in August 2014 and during the four days of the war the April 2016 ", - the president said, stressing that the oil revenues of Azerbaijan turned the head of the leadership of Azerbaijan, which continues to approach the resolution of the conflict with maximalist positions.
Sargsyan stressed that during his presidency he initiated the opening of a new page in relations with neighboring Turkey. As a result of this initiative, protocols were signed in Zurich in 2009, aimed at opening the border and settling the Armenian-Turkish relations.
"Unfortunately, the leadership of Turkey refused to sign this document and from the ideas of good- neighborliness, putting forward preconditions that had no connection with these protocols, because of this position we had to cancel these documents," the Armenian President noted. Sargsyan stressed that if the leadership of Turkey ripens for signing the protocols without preconditions, the Armenian side will be ready again to provide Ankara with such an opportunity.
