ArmInfo. The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has not yet decided on the candidature of the new special representative of the structure for the South Caucasus.
As OSCE PA President Georgi Tsereteli told journalists in Baku, the South Caucasus is a difficult region, and there are difficult obligations in this region. He recalled that Kristian Vigenin, the Special Representative of the OSCE PA for the South Caucasus, who had resigned, had held this post for about 2 years. "In the final report, Vigenin suggested we change the model related to the position of the special representative in accordance with the reforms planned in the OSCE PA. At present, we are thinking about the effectiveness of work, the distribution of forces, commitments and portfolios of vice-presidents and special representatives. However, this is just a proposal. We can assign these powers to the vice-president, or they will be formed in a different format. We will think over this. However, I personally think that we need to focus on the South Caucasus region - in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as on the events in Georgia. Perhaps in the coming weeks we will decide on the appointment of a special representative," the OSCE PA chairman concluded.
Note that on February 22, the special representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for the South Caucasus, Kristian Vigenin, submitted his resignation after the presentation of the final report at the winter session of the OSCE PA. His decision Vigenin argued the desire to focus all his forces at work as a spokesperson for the Committee on Political Affairs and Security. Vigenin, during his speech at the session, touching on the position of the special representative expressed the conviction that the three countries of the South Caucasus should be viewed not in the aggregate, but individually. According to him, all the problems and issues related to Nagorno-Karabakh are completely different from the situation in Georgia - all these three countries have different approaches and goals. At the same time, he expressed the conviction that, in the current situation, the position of the special representative is formal.
