ArmInfo. The political decision was made: in April Serzh Sargsyan will hold the post of the Prime Minister of Armenia. ArmInfo correspondent was informed about this by sources close to the leadership of the ruling Republican Party.
According to sources, the decision to nominate Sargsyan for the post of prime minister will be made public after April 10, when his powers expire at the presidential post, and on April 17 the elections of the head of the Cabinet will be held in the National Assembly. The fact that before the constitutional referendum, Serzh Sargsyan promised not to hold the post of prime minister in the case of Armenia's transition to a parliamentary form of government, does not bother the Republicans.
"Yes, he made a similar promise, but if his fellow party members ask him to head the Cabinet with due regard for the interests of the country and the people, he will do it, despite this promise," the source disclosed. As for the future of the current Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan after April, it became clear from the conversation with the sources in the RPA that this issue has not been discussed yet.
"Karen Karapetyan does not want to head the Cabinet after April 2018," he assured. As for the presidential elections to be held in early March, everything is also clear here: the RA Ambassador to Great Britain Armen Sargsyan will run for office from the Republican Party, which, given the Republicans' majority in the parliament, will win. At the same time, sources excluded the possibility that Sargsyan would refuse to accept the Republican proposal.
"If the decision on his nomination on our part was made public, it means that the consent from Armen Sargsyan was received in advance," the sources noted. It should be noted that Armen Sargsyan asked President Serzh Sargsyan to think over and meet with the public and political circles of Armenia, representatives of Artsakh and the Diaspora for a final decision.
