ArmInfo.. "Each structure wants to increase its influence and its team, it is unlikely that entire Russia and the Russian Foreign Ministry will be exclusively interested in Armenia's interests. It is certainly beneficial for Azerbaijan to join the EAEU," the head of the parliamentary faction told journalists on November 20 the ruling Republican Party Vahram Baghdasaryan, commenting on the statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Russia would be happy to see Azerbaijan in the EAEU.
Baghdasaryan stated that, of course, Russia would benefit from Azerbaijan's accession to the EAEU, however, by its definition, the desire and reality do not always coincide. As the politician noted, Azerbaijan's entry into the EAEU is hampered by the unresolved Karabakh conflict. "In a word, I do not see anything terrible or dangerous in this statement," Baghdasaryan concluded.
On November 20 in Baku during a meeting with students of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia would be very pleased to see Azerbaijan as part of the Eurasian Economic Union.
"This union is an open integration community, we did not force anyone to join this organization, we are currently considering the inclusion of Tajikistan in this structure. We are also receiving applications from countries that are not members of the CIS," Lavrov said.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan repeatedly stated that Azerbaijan did not address this issue, but if such a desire arises, Armenia expressed it clearly. "According to the provisions of the agreement, this status can not be attributed to a country that is acting to the detriment of a member state and the whole organization. It is enough to note only the blockade. From this point of view, there can be no speech about the status of an observer, not speaking about the membership," said Kocharyan.
Sergei Glazyev, an adviser to the Russian president on regional economic integration, said in Yerevan in October 2017, that the decision to accept Azerbaijan into the Eurasian Economic Union depends on Armenia's position.
