ArmInfo.Between the employees of law enforcement bodies of Armenia and students striking against the law on the abolition of the postponement from compulsory military service, clashes took place.
The clashes occurred after the students refused to release the roadway of the Baghramyan Avenue, which was demanded by the Deputy Chief of the Metropolitan Police Valery Osipyan. "I urge you to release the roadway of the Baghramyan Avenue and return to the sidewalk, otherwise the RA Police will have to resort to adequate measures," the deputy police chief said. However, the students refused to comply with the demands of the Police, as a result of which a clash occurred between the law enforcers and the protesters.
It should be noted that the striking students from Demirchyan Street on the roadway went to Baghramyan Avenue, thereby paralyzing traffic. Law enforcement authorities are not yet able to return students to the pavement from the roadway. The hunger strike of five participants continues, four of which, by the way, have already served in the army. A starving student also participates in the action, whose well-being deteriorated yesterday.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly today in the third and final reading passed a law on "Military service and the status of a serviceman," which provides for the complete abolition of deferment from compulsory military service for all young people who have reached the age of 18 and who have no health problems incompatible with service in the army. The heads of the defense and educational departments of Armenia, as well as representatives of the establishment believe that the document will not affect the system and the quality of education in the country and will even contribute to establishing justice and reducing corruption risks during the draft.
