ArmInfo. Estonian diplomat Toivo Klaar is appointed to the post of EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia. This is reported by the press service of the EU.
The Committee for Politics and Security made this decision on October 13 in Brussels, consisting of the ambassadors of the EU member states.
Klaar will succeed Germany's diplomat Herbert Salber, who was appointed as Special Representative in July 2014.
T. Klaar started work at the Estonian Foreign Ministry in 1991, in the past he held the posts of the Director General for Political Affairs, the Director General of the EU Affairs Division. In the period 1999-2001, the Estonian diplomat was Foreign Affairs Adviser to President Lennart Meri, during the period 2003-2005 he was an adviser to the Ministry of Defense. From 2005 to 2010, he headed the representation of the European Commission in Estonia, from which he moved to the EU's diplomatic service (EEAS). In EEAS, Claire worked in the resource and planning group, and also led the EU observation mission in Georgia.
