ArmInfo. Prospects for signing of the Agreement on Comprehensive and Extended Partnership by Yerevan and Brussels are assessed differently, mainly based on Armenia's rejection of association with EU on September 3, 2013, such an opinion was expressed by the Russian analyst Sergey Markedonov
On November 24, 2017 at the Brussels summit of the "Eastern Partnership" Armenia plans to sign a partnership document on the partnership with the EU, which was initialed on March 21 - the Agreement on Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership. The relevant talks were initiated by the Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU on October 12, 2015 in Luxembourg.
"The additional sharpness is added by the ongoing confrontation between the West and Russia, as a result of which, pursuing a policy of sanctions against Moscow, Brussels actively promotes the ideology of" European choice "for the post-Soviet republics, which allegedly minimizes their dependence on Russia. Brussels summit, "the analyst said.
Noting the fact of the highest level of Armenia's relations with Belarus and Russia among the countries of the Eastern Partnership, Markedonov stressed that Moscow began to consider the foreign policy aspirations of the post-Soviet republics in search of a foreign policy balance within the framework of the choice between the pro-Western and the Eurasian vector. In reality, in his opinion, the choice is much more complicated and nuanced due to the numerous restrictions.
The analyst noted that such an approach is not a feature of the Armenian foreign policy and the same strategic ally of Russia Kazakhstan has an Agreement on enhanced partnership and cooperation with the EU, having an extreme interest in expanding economic ties with Brussels. Particularly emphasizes the need for constructive dialogue with the European Union and Belarus, whose leader is invited to the Brussels summit of the "EP".
"In the end, the diversification of foreign policy towards cooperation with Russia or the EU is by no means reduced, Armenia and Azerbaijan are interested in strengthening ties with the same Iran and Israel, and Belarus and Kazakhstan are looking with interest at Beijing," the analyst concluded.
